Schnittstellen für die Erschließung mittelalterlicher Handschriften

At HAB several interface formats for the description of medieval manuscripts are taken care of and will be developed further:

Project MASTER - Inferface format for the description of medieval manuscripts (2004-2006)

Within the project MASTER an interface format to the "Richtlinien Handschriftenkatalogisierung" [DFG 1992] for the description of medieval manuscripts has been developed in cooperation with the Bayerischen Staatsbibliothek München. The target format is oriented at the international standard TEI (P5).

An XML schema has been developed for the descriptions in TEI-P5 format to support cataloguing according to the "Richtlinien" and allow for validation of data as precondition for ingestion of data into the manuscript database Manuscripta Mediaevalia. Furthermore XSLT scripts have been written which convert XML data to HTML, for print publication and to the data format of Manuscripta Mediaevalia.

The schema as well as the XSLT scripts will be adapted according to the advancements of the TEI and for current needs.

Cooperation: Bildarchiv Foto Marburg, SB Berlin und BSB München

DFG-Viewer for manuscripts

In the course of the development of an unified viewer for digital images of cultural heritage materials (DFG-Viewer) it has become apparent that the presentation of digitised manuscripts requires other data than the presentation of digitised printed books. In succession of the MASTER project the format TEI-METS will be provided for digitised manuscripts. HAB supports the development of this format which will be used for presentation within the DFG-Viewer.

Cooperation: SLUB Dresden as well as the Manuscript Centres

Medieval manuscripts at Europeana

In the scope of the EU-funded project "Europeana Regia - A digital co-operative library of royal manuscripts in Medieval and Renaissance Europe" HAB was responsible for development of interface formats for the ingest of manuscript description data into Europeana. This covered the conversion of descriptions from EAD, MARC21, and TEI into an coherent import format as well as the succeeding conversion from there into the format ESE.

Within the project the TEI-XML schema composed by the EU-funded project ENRICH was developed further.

The schema as well as the XSLT scripts will be adapted according to the advancements of the TEI and for current needs.

Cooperation: The European Library, Europeana
