Notes on digital media

The delivery of digital copies only encompasses image files. Viewers cannot be supplied for legal reasons. Please use customary viewer or graphics software (e.g. iView, ACDSee, Paint Shop Pro, Photoshop, or the like.)

Images are zipped for online delivery. Zip-files have to be decompressed by file compression software (e.g. Winzip or pkunzip).

JPEG scans (standard-quality digital copy with 100 dpi) are suitable for most uses. But for publication purposes they are of limited use. For reproduction of delicate graphic structures and large formats JPEGs are insufficient. For examples, please view the images in Wolfenbüttel Digital Library.

If a microfilm exists, digital copies are for conservatorical reasons reproduced double-paged as grayscale JPEGs from film. If no microfilm exists, images are taken in colour as single pages from the original.

Digital colour copies (at least 300 dpi, TIFF) are usually suitable for print. Due to file size (about 20-45 MB) there might be technical problems with your PC. 256 MB RAM and an efficient processor are recommended for image viewing and image processing. These reproductions are only supplied on CD.
