What does the online catalogue contain?

What is the purpose of the online catalogue?

The online catalogue (OPAC) can be used to search the holdings of the library and to request or reserve books.

What is in the OPAC?

  • Monographs 1501 ff.

  • part of the incunabula collection (all the incunabula are searchable via INKA, which contains all incunabula held in German libraries)

  • Journals

  • Articles from journals and essay collections concerning the early modern period (data from 2008 onwards)

What is not in the OPAC?

  • Manuscripts (there are several printed catalogues, some have already been digitized)

  • Special collections

  • Funeral sermons from the Stolberg collection (those not yet digitized)

 

How can I search the OPAC?

Please use the help texts in the OPAC if you have problems using the online search or contact the reference desk.


How can I request and reserve books via the OPAC?

How to request a book via the OPAC:

  • To request a book you have to click the link “Request” that will appear below the shelfmark (for books available for loan)

  • In the following window you have to enter your user number (to be found on your library card, if the last character is an X please type it in upper case) and password

  • Click “Send”

  • Your order will be confirmed (or you will receive an error message)

  •  Please end your session by clicking “close” in the left-hand menu

How can I reserve a book already on loan to someone else?

  • To make a reservation click the link “Reserve”, that will be shown below the shelfmarks of books out on loan

  • In the following window you have to enter your user number (to be found on your library card, if the last character is an X please type it in upper case) and password

  • Click “Send”

  • Your reservation will be confirmed (or you will receive an error message)

  • Please end your session by clicking “close” in the left-hand menu

 

How can I renew books using the OPAC?

  • Log in to your account by clicking onto the link “Borrower information” in the top menu of the OPAC

  • In the following window you have to enter your user number (to be found on your library card, if the last character is an X please type it in upper case) and password

  • Click “Send”

  • Click “loans”

  • Select the books you wish to renew by setting checkmarks

  • Renewing the loan period is not possible if another person placed a reservation on a book

  • Click “renew” to extend the loan period for another 2 or 4 weeks (depending on the original loan period)

  • The new expiry date can be seen in the corresponding column

  • Please end your session by clicking “close” in the left-hand menu

 

How can I see which books I have currently borrowed or reserved?

  • Log in to your account by clicking onto the link “Borrower information” at the top menu of the OPAC

  • In the following window you have to give your user number (to be found on your library card, if the last character is an X please type an upper case) and password

  • Click onto “loans” or ”reservations” to get a list of the books you have borrowed or reserved

  • Please end you session by clicking “close” in the left-hand menu
