The American Friends of the HAB Travel Grant
The American Friends of the HAB offers travel grants of up to $1,500 to assist young US Citizens (or permanent US Residents) who are in the process of writing dissertations based on the rich collections of the Herzog August Bibliothek. Students may either apply directly or be nominated by their doctoral advisers. The choice of successful applicants is made by the Executive Committee of the American Friends. Competition is open to US students in all the fields in which the HAB has significant holdings. The travel grants may be used in conjunction with a doctoral fellowship from the library. The quickest and easiest way to request an application form by e-mail is to contact Prof. Gerhild Scholz Williams (Washington University, St Louis). "Digital Humanities": Doctoral and Post-doctoral Fellowships for the academic year 2013-2014
Deadline expired
Within its own research and projects and digital editions the Herzog August Bibliothek has created innovative research infrastructures for the humanities in the fields of medieval and early modern studies. The library is now part of a large joint-venture project "Digital Humanities" funded by the Lower Saxony Ministry of Research and Culture and co-ordinated by the Göttingen Centre for Digital Humanities. Within this project the HAB can fund several fellowships in the academic year 2013-2014. The programme is open to all disciplines and is directed towards doctoral and advanced researchers from Germany and abroad. Applicants must be conducting a research project which relies on methods and techniques from the digital humanities (datbase-oriented studies, digital edition etc.) and is linked to the book or manuscript holdings of the Wolfenbüttel library. Applicants must be able to provide proof of experience in using computer technology in their research. The library will support fellows' projects with its own expertise.
Fellowships of between 2 and 9 months for doctoral students are € 1000 per month, for scholars who have already received their PhD the rate is either € 1250 (if fellows continue to receive full pay during their fellowship tenure) or € 1800 per month, plus a travel allowance to and from Wolfenbüttel. Fellowships carry a residence requirement and the library has its own housing facilities. Fellows are expected to contribute to the academic life of the library and participate in scholarly exchange. Complete applications for fellowships which can begin October 1st 2013 (or thereafter) must reach us by March 15th.
