Cultural Transfer in the early modern era

The project takes account of the changing perspectives on cultural transfer and associated processes which new research approaches in the humanities and cultural studies have generated over the last decade. It relates both to transcontinental and inner-European cultures.

The main purpose of the project is to develop a new collection focus within the holdings of the Herzog August Library: altered perspective in cultural transfer research have led to new theoretical approaches, case studies and surveys, that are not covered by acquisition policies governed by boundaries of the classical humanities. The project will broaden this scope.

During the course of the project international research literature in this field will be broadly and systematically acquired to strengthen the holdings. Additionally, the project will allow the antiquarian acquisition of relevant rare books relating to other cultures, which has hitherto been limited to German imprints.

The project´s results will be presented in a subject portal with a database documenting all the research literature acquired and new additions to the holdings of rare books concerning cultural transfer. The literature will be indexed to allow systematic searches.
