The
Virtuelle Kupferstichkabinett (Virtual Printroom)
is a joint project being carried out by the Herzog
August Bibliothek (HAB) in Wolfenbüttel and the
Herzog Anton Ulrich Museum (HAUM) in Braunschweig,
Germany. The aim of the project is to create a virtual
combination of a representative selection of items
from the print collections of both institutions. These
include holdings which once belonged to the former
ducal collections, but are now divided between the
HAUM and the HAB. The main focus will be on works
dating from before 1800. 40,000 prints will be digitalised
and described in the course of four years. Descriptions
and linked images will be entered into a database
which will be freely available via the internet. Formal
descriptions will be based on international standards.
In addition all imprints will be indexed by Foto Marburg
using of Iconclass.
The database will be accessible via a common internet
portal of the HAUM and HAB, as well as through the
indexes of the archives of Foto
Marburg.
In March 2011 there was an international conference
"Printroom online" organised by Herzog August
Bibliothek and Herzog Anton Ulrich-Museum. Information
