The
Herzog August Bibliothek has published a catalogue
of its Luther imprints. The libary's holdings of
Luther imprints which appeared during the author's
lifetime (i.e. up to 1546), now represent the world-wide
largest collection of Luther's works excluding his
translation of the Bible.
Appr. 6000 works are described in detail in this
catalogue with indices of their particular characteristics.
Special attention is paid to decorative elements,
the rich motifs of different provenance in the 2400
woodcuts, and to evidence of book ownership from
the early 16th century onwards, including 940 names
among a large number of anonymous owners.
The comprehensive catalogue was initially planned
as a book publication.
