Moses Mendelssohn Edition

Project in Cooperation with the Technical University Braunschweig

Project Description

The first critical edition of Mendelssohn's works started in 1929 and was stopped forcibly in 1938, after seven published volumes (out of sixteen volumes planned). Work was resumed in 1971 by the Frommann publishing firm (Stuttgart). The first general editor Alexander Altmann died in 1987, when Eva J. Engel took over and brought the numbers of volumes in print up to 33. The last completed volumes await printing, after which three Index volumes can be rounded off. The project is realized in cooperation with the Technical University Braunschweig.

Funding: Alfred Freiherr von Oppenheim-Stiftung,
G.O.D. Gesellschaft für Organisation und Datenverarbeitung (Braunschweig)
Project Director: Prof. Dr. Eva J. Engel
Researchers: Markus Gröchtemeier, Uwe Lammers, Margit Schad
