When coming from the west, you can get to Wolfenbüttel via the A2 motorway (Hanover–Berlin), just take the Braunschweig-Nord exit and head towards Bad Harzburg via the A391, A39 and A36, then exit at Wolfenbüttel-Nord. From the south (Kassel–Hanover) use the A7 motorway: first take the Salzgitter exit, then drive towards Braunschweig on the A39 until you reach the Salzgitter-Watenstedt exit, and from there follow signs for Wolfenbüttel. When travelling from the east, take the B79 or B4 main road to get to Wolfenbüttel. You can find further information on getting to Wolfenbüttel by car on the website reiseplanung.de.

By train

An Intercity (IC) or Intercity-Express (ICE) service from Hanover to Berlin or Leipzig generally stops at Braunschweig’s main train station (Hauptbahnhof) once an hour. There are other direct ICE connections from cities such as Berlin, Frankfurt, Stuttgart and Munich (Deutsche Bahn travel information).

How to get to Wolfenbüttel from Braunschweig Hauptbahnhof:

  1. By train: Regional trains (RB) from Braunschweig to Bad Harzburg, Goslar and Schöppenstedt stop off at Wolfenbüttel. They generally run every half an hour and the journey takes 10 minutes. From the station walk straight ahead across a pedestrian bridge, then turn left into Schulwall and carry on until you get to Lessingplatz. It takes around 10 minutes to walk to the library from Wolfenbüttel station (see also Google Maps).
  2. By bus: The 420 bus route (operated by Verkehrsverbund Region Braunschweig) to Wolfenbüttel-Bahnhof departs every 15 to 20 minutes from the bus station directly in front of the train station. The journey takes around 20 minutes. Get off at the Kornmarkt stop and walk through the pedestrian zone for around 5 minutes until you reach the library.
  3. By taxi: The taxi rank is situated at the exit to the train station under the glass portico. The price to Wolfenbüttel is around 25 euros.
