Using this app, visitors move through exhibition rooms in which Lessing’s life, especially his years as librarian in Wolfenbüttel from 1770 until his death in 1781, are illustrated by historical documents, paintings and other exhibits. With his versatile mind, he worked as a journalist, playwright and librarian as well as in other fields – always driven by a thirst for knowledge and a desire for intellectual independence. Works such as Minna von Barnhelm, Emilia Galotti and Nathan the Wise established Lessing as one of the key writers of the Enlightenment and a pioneer of tolerance, reason and humanity.

The game’s format takes up these themes. Visitors can use their own smartphones or tablets to interactively explore the exhibition via tasks and quiz questions – at any time during the opening hours of the Lessinghaus.

„Natürlich kann man mich nicht sehen. Ich bin schon lange tot. Mein Name ist Gotthold und ich habe hier gewohnt. Leider steckt mein Geist fest und ich habe so viel vergessen. Ich könnte Hilfe gebrauchen, um meine Erinnerungen aufzufrischen.“
