I am a doctoral researcher at the European University Institute in Florence, exploring the emotional experiences of early modern religious exile. My research focuses on the Bohemian Brethren (Unitas Fratrum), a Protestant community expelled from Bohemia in 1548 that sought refuge in the multiconfessional states of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and the Duchy of Prussia. By examining their journey through the lens of the history of emotions, I aim to uncover how exile shaped their collective identity and emotional practices. During my research at the HAB, I will examine seventeenth-century sources that commemorate this expulsion, shedding light on how it was remembered and interpreted by later generations.
