My project contributes to the printing history of early Reformation Breslau (Wrocław), focusing on the production of two local printers, Kaspar Lybisch (fl. 1518–1540) and Adam Dyon (fl. 1518–1534). Building on observations that certain books and pamphlets printed in Breslau imitated the production from Wittenberg printing shops, I aim to investigate how Dyon and Lybisch used the visual elements, such as woodcuts and typography, to reconcile two seemingly contradictory goals: emulating books from Wittenberg to show their participation in the transregional intellectual movement while simultaneously expressing the unique identity of Breslau as a printing centre.
