My research in the Herzog August Bibliothek in Wolfenbüttel is focused on the socio-cultural history of the Ukrainian principalities of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in the late 16th-early 17th century. In particular I am concentrated on the multi-culturalism and multi-confessionalism in the princes’ Radziwills Olyka estate. Located in the Volyn voivodeship Olyka majorat constitutes the physical and metaphorical borderlands filled with the controversial issues of the ever-changing loyalties and identities of the multi-cultural and multi-religious (and multi-confessional) political society.
The undergoing research is concentrated on showing how these borderlands shaped the complicated relationship between the patrons (princes Radziwills, who were converted Catholics) with their clientele – nobility and common people of Ukrainian, Polish, Jewish, Tatar origin, who were Orthodox Christians, Protestants of various denominations, Jews, Muslims etc.
