In its capacity as the processing centre for medieval manuscripts in Northern Germany, the Manuscripts Department of the Herzog August Bibliothek has collected rubbings of binding stamps from its own holdings and from external collections over a period of more than 30 years. In ongoing cataloguing projects, book covers and individual stamps continue to be recorded and entered into the binding database.
