Culture

The HAB offers a diverse cultural programme, such as guided tours, workshops, lectures, concerts and readings. Exhibitions in the museum present current research findings on European cultural history of the Middle Ages and the early modern period. In addition, there are exhibitions of modern and contemporary book artists.

Museum of the HAB

The museum of the Herzog August Bibliothek is located in the Bibliotheca Augusta and the Lessinghaus. Permanent and special exhibitions provide insights into the history and the collections of the library.

Exhibitions

Globes and old maps are on permanent display in the museum of the Bibliotheca Augusta. An exhibition on the "Life and Work of Lessing in Wolfenbüttel" is set up in the Lessinghaus. In addition, the HAB regularly presents special exhibitions in which research results and collections are presented and made accessible to the public. Exhibitions of works by modern or contemporary artists, many of whom are also represented in the collection of the Wolfenbüttel Library, are held in the Malerbuchsaal.

Guided tours and workshops

The HAB's general guided tour programme is rounded off by special tours of the museum and the Zeughaus as well as guided tours of the restauration and digitisation workshops. In our seminars, the focus is on practice.

Cultural events

A rich cultural programme thematically complements the HAB's work in library and research. These include lectures, guided tours and readings. As a cooperation partner the Society of Friends of the Herzog August Bibliothek Wolfenbüttel e.V. regularly organises concerts.
