The goal was to create and publish online the first ever in-depth scholarly catalogue of all sources and documents pertaining to Rubens’s life and work, as well as any literary references.

This establishes a basic research resource granting access to known and previously unpublished material, contemporary printed sources from the 17th and early 18th centuries and writings published by those close to Rubens.

This allows researchers to look at Rubens from a contemporary perspective and undertake a complete re-evaluation of the social position, economic situation, creative impact and intellectual positioning of an artist who came to represent the era in which he lived.

The digital edition is accessible online.
